Crimson Dawn is a study of red at its most physical. Layers of intense crimson are built over dark underpainting, so the colour seems to burn from within rather than rest on the surface. Here and there, small fragments of turquoise break through, like cool sparks buried deep in the heat.
The painting holds the feeling of a dawn that has not yet decided what kind of day it will be: tense and restless, yet full of the promise of renewal. Its heavy, tactile surface changes with the light, revealing new ridges and hollows from every angle.
