“I’m interested in colour as a psychological space rather than decoration.”
Nataliia Ivaniv is a Ukrainian abstract painter based in Ivano-Frankivsk. Before returning to the easel, she spent years working in UI/UX design, an experience that still shapes how she thinks about surfaces, layers and the way we perceive what is in front of us.
Working in acrylic and mixed media, she builds her paintings through heavy impasto, scraping and dense layering. Her practice moves between two series: Monochrome, where a single colour is pushed to its emotional limits, and Impasto, where colour and gesture meet in thick, sculptural strokes.
She studied at Lviv Art School (2016–2020). In 2026 her work was exhibited in Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv and Odesa, and her paintings are held in private collections.
Approach
I paint the space between the screen and the surface. After years of designing digital interfaces, I came back to the canvas for what a screen cannot give: weight, resistance, a surface you can feel with your eyes.
Most of my paintings are made with palette knives and scrapers. Paint is laid down, scraped back and covered again, so every layer leaves a trace.
