Aquamarine is the Black Sea as seen from Odesa. Turquoise, deep ultramarine and seafoam green collide with sudden bursts of crimson and umber, like waves breaking against weathered iron and sun-bleached stone in the old port.
The vigorous knife marks carry not only the colour of the water but its rhythm: shifting tides, salt-laden wind, brief flashes of harbour light. Like the sea it comes from, the painting moves between calm aquamarine and stormy steel.
